About this hook

This is the most crowded hook on our wall, and for good reason. A 3 inch locking D rides on a belt loop without digging in, holds a hammock strap without a second look and keeps a dog leash from sliding off the ring.

Choose auto-lock if you clip and unclip all day, screw-lock if the clip stays put for weeks. Both are 7075 aluminium with an anti-oxidation finish, both are rated 12kN, and neither is certified for climbing or personal safety.

Questions from the wall

Can I use a 12kN carabiner for a hammock or a swing?

Yes. 12kN is roughly 2,698 lb along the spine, far more than a hammock or porch swing asks for. Load it along the long axis, never across the gate.

Why do they say not for climbing?

They are not tested or certified to climbing standards. For anything that holds a person on a rope, use our UIAA certified 25kN line.

Which is better on a keychain, auto-lock or screw-lock?

Auto-lock if you take your keys off several times a day; screw-lock if you want the lightest action and the lowest chance of the gate being pushed open in a pocket.
